Fire Sprinklers

An American, Henry S. Parmalee, invented sprinklers in 1874 to protect his piano factory.  Since that time, fire sprinklers have evolved to be a highly effective defense against the spread of fire. Until the 1940s and 1950s, sprinklers were installed almost exclusively for the protection of buildings, especially warehouses and factories. Insurance savings, which could pay back the cost of the system in a few years time, were the major incentives. Following fires with large losses of life fire and building officials searched for a means to provide life safety for building occupants. They found that factories and other buildings equipped with automatic sprinklers had an amazingly good life safety record compared with similar unsprinklered buildings.  Sprinklers do not rely upon human factors such as familiarity with escape routes or emergency assistance. They go to work immediately to reduce the danger. Sprinklers prevent the fast developing fires of intense heat, which are capable of trapping and killing dozens of building occupants.
Fire sprinklers are widely recognized as the single most effective method for fighting the spread of fires in their early stages - before they can cause severe injury to people and damage to property.  Alliance Fire Protection Services, Inc. specializes in the inspection, service and installation of all types of fire protection systems.

Fire Hydrants

Fire hydrants have been used in fire protection for over 100 years.  The first hydrants were used for public water supply from the earliest municipal water systems. They resembled faucets and were at best suited for the bucket brigade method of firefighting. Prior to municipal water systems, there were other means to provide water in the event of a fire.  The first post or pillar type hydrant is generally credited to Mr. Frederick Graff Sr., Chief Engineer of the Philadelphia Water Works around the year 1801. It had a combination hose/faucet outlet and was of "wet barrel" design with the valve in the top. It is said that Mr. Graff held the first U.S. patent for a fire hydrant, but this cannot be verified: all U.S. patents were destroyed in 1836 when the patent office burned to the ground.

Fire Alarms

On 28 April 1852 the first municipal electric fire alarm system using call boxes with automatic signaling to indicate the location of a fire was placed into operation in Boston.   Invented by William Channing and Moses Farmer, this system was highly successful in reducing property loss and deaths due to fire and was subsequently adopted throughout the United States and in Canada.
A properly installed, maintained and monitored fire alarm system provides early detection of fire situations.  Early warning detection leads to evacuation and faster response by emergency personnel and can significantly reduce property loss and damage.  Alliance Fire Protection Services, Inc. technicians have over 64 years combined experience and continue to be on the cutting edge of today’s technology.

Fire Suppression

Historically, water has been the primary means to put out fires and to limit damage caused by a fire.  With the technical advances in electronics and the sensitive nature of various occupancies, it became necessary to have other means of fire protection.  Fire Suppression systems are now used in applications where water is not a viable option.

Fire Suppression systems come in many varieties and include clean agent gas systems such as FM-200, Inergen and Sapphire as well as kitchen hood suppression systems, portable fire extinguishers and foam extinguishing systems found in airplane hangars.  Let Alliance Fire Protection Services, Inc. determine if a Fire Suppression system would be the best fire protection solution for your specific application.

With Alliance Fire Protection Services you receive a true “full service” experience.
